IZ / ARA / SEYIR
Turkish Modal Music & Jazz
Each sound is a trace (IZ). Each pause, an in-between (ARA). Each moment, a voyage (SEYIR) …
A contemporary journey for saxophone, piano, and kemenche.
Evrim Demirel • piano
Anıl Şallıel • saxophone
Furkan Bilgi • kemenche
Blending the depth of Turkish modal music (makam), the expressive freedom of jazz, and the boundlessness of improvisation, three virtuosos of Turkish contemporary music scene create a sonic universe that is both deeply rooted and richly intercultural.
Born from the encounter of three instruments shaped by distinct musical traditions, this project — crafted by EVRIM DEMIREL, ANIL ŞALLIEL, and FURKAN BILGI — offers a singular narrative in which the improvisatory language of jazz weaves itself together with the resonances of the maqam tradition.
