ANGELUS
Physical Theatre
Accompanied by sublime musical compositions, ANGELUS explores the social and intergenerational contradictions of urban Turkish youth.
A resilient and fragile angel, both courageous and fearful, at once wounded and a healer…
Inspired by Walter Benjamin’s “Angel of History,” the physical theatre piece ANGELUS blends text, music, and dance/movement.
This is the story of the third generation of families who migrated from the Anatolian countryside to the metropolis, moving toward the future with their eyes fixed on the disasters of the past.
How can one confront patriarchal and feudal violence and its inherited traumas? How to build a narrative of healing from this field of ruins? ANGELUS proposes an embodied and imagistic reflection.
Drawing from archetypes of Anatolian legends such as Deli Dumrul and Boğaç Han, the performance sheds light on intergenerational conflict and the journey toward salvation.
